Exhibition of Pietro Perugino in Fano

Arte e musei

The Pala di Durante, a symbol of identity for Fano also known as the Pala di Fano and painted by Pietro Perugino, the greatest master of his time, returns to the city after extensive restoration work.

The exhibition, curated by Anna Maria Ambrosini Massari with Emanuela Daffra, is organized by the Municipality of Fano, in collaboration with the Opificio delle Pietre Dure and with the contribution of the Marche Region.

The dossier-exhibition will allow visitors to see the Pala and each of its sections like never before, accompanied by reports on the exceptional restoration work and fundamental comparisons, thanks to digital reproductions. In particular, there will be a comparison with the so-called 'twin altarpiece', created for the main altar of the church of the Observants in Senigallia. An engaging comparison, with elements of significant educational and scientific importance, that takes us inside the great artistic workshops of the time.

The epochal restoration, overseen by the Opificio delle Pietre Dure in Florence, has restored the Pala to its splendor and has allowed for a deeper study of Perugino's work, through an extensive campaign of diagnostic, radiographic, photographic, and multispectral investigations, as well as the examination of the reverse side of the artifacts by a multidisciplinary team of specialized restorers, art historians, scientific experts, and photographers.
